Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on an historic trip to Baghdad Sunday that America fueled the violence in Iraq, portraying his nation as a close friend of the neighbor it once fought in a bitter eight-year war.

Ahmadinejad, the first Iranian president to visit Iraq, disputed U.S. allegations that Tehran is training and equipping Shiite militias there. The American presence, he said, was responsible for drawing terrorists..

Sure, Iran has nothing to do with any problems with terrorism in Iraq. Sure!

”The Iraqi people do not like the Americans,” Ahmadinejad said at a press conference with U.S.-backed Orime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in the Green Zone — the heart of the American diplomatic presence.

”Six years ago, there were no terrorists in our region. As soon as the others landed in this country and the region, we witnessed their arrival and presence,” Ahmadinejad said Sunday night after meeting Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, the leader of Iraq’s largest Shiite political bloc.

Ahmadinejad sounds like Harry Reid or Cindy Sheehan, they must share notes. Frankly, I question why Maliki ever allowed this scumbag into his country. No good will come of his visit. And, it is also galling to have Maliki stand by while this little Hitler wannabe runs down the nation that freed Iraq and has given them hope.

Israel defied international condemnation yesterday and threatened to step up the Gaza offensive that has so far claimed 100 lives.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told his cabinet: “Let it be clear that Israel has no intention to stop the fighting for a single moment.”

Just classic hypocrisy from the morally retarded “International Community”. Terrorists in Gaza send deadly rockets into Israel time and again, targeting innocent civillians and the international community pretty much twiddles its thumbs. Yet when Israel seeks to defend it’s citizens by taking out those shooting the rockets, the international community is appalled!

Yesterday a 21-month-old girl was among at least ten Palestinians killed. It followed more than 60 deaths on Saturday, one of the bloodiest days in Gaza since the 1980s.

Although many of the dead were Hamas fighters, at least three women and nine children died in Gaza on Saturday.

Israel said it was acting in self-defence to curb daily rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.

It threatened to intensify its ground and air campaign, despite a UN charge it was using excessive force.

Excessive force? What would the UN have Israel do I wonder? Israel is being attacked, they MUST defend themselves. Anything else would be immoral frankly. Hamas is the culprit here, if they stopped trying to eradicate Israel, there would be no attacks from Israel.

Finally, even if the third clip is NOT Obama’s pastor, the first two videos, particularly Wright’s interview with Hannity, show him to be a bitter, angry, and possibly racist man. The media has allowed Obama to skate without answering why he associates himself with such a man.

It was, in this reporter’s opinion, the most interesting moment in today’s Clinton campaign phoner with reporters. Responding to the release of HRC’s new TX TV ad, which asserts in no subtle terms that only she has the experience to deal with a major world crisis, and, relatedly, to keep your children safe, Slate’s John Dickerson asked the obvious question:

“What foreign policy moment would you point to in Hillary’s career where she’s been tested by crisis?” he said.

Silence on the call. You could’ve knit a sweater in the time it took the usually verbose team of Mark Penn, Howard Wolfson and Lee Feinstein, Clinton’s national security director, to find a cogent answer. And what they came up with was weak — that she’s been endorsed by many high ranking members of the uniformed military.

OUCH! Of course, she has no foreign policy experience to speak of. She campaign on experience, but that dog not only does not hunt, it does get off the porch!

Frankly, I doubt Senator Clinton saw these tough questions in her futire. She never expected the media to really go after her. But, as we all know, Obamamania has wowed the media.

I wonder if Obama, the new darling of the MSM, will get some tough questions like this?

Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) may return to Capitol Hill this month to support an amendment imposing a one-year ban on earmarks, a move that could set up a divisive clash within the GOP caucus.

McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee, has long broken with most of Congress, including the Senate Republican leadership, in seeking an end to the practice of inserting line items in spending bills for parochial projects.

His return could set up a clash with many Senate Republicans who argue that it is the prerogative of Congress to set spending priorities, and earmarks are acceptable so long as the process is transparent. Earmarks take on added importance in an election year because lawmakers often point to the projects to tout their effectiveness in Congress.

McCain told conservative bloggers on a conference call this week that – if his schedule permits – he would take a break from the campaign trail and vote on an amendment by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) to impose a one-year ban on earmarks.

Well, this could buy him some points with Conservatives who are disgusted at government’s out of control spending on pork. He surely needs all the help he can give himself there.

FOR a man who has placed “hope” at the centre of his campaign, Barack Obama can sound pretty darned depressing. As the battle for the Democratic nomination reaches a climax in Texas and Ohio, the front-runner’s speeches have begun to paint a world in which laid-off parents compete with their children for minimum-wage jobs while corporate fat-cats mis-sell dodgy mortgages and ship jobs off to Mexico. The man who claims to be a “post-partisan” centrist seems to be channelling the spirit of William Jennings Bryan, the original American populist, who thunderously demanded to know “Upon which side shall the Democratic Party fight—upon the side of ‘the idle holders of idle capital’ or upon the side of ‘the struggling masses’?”

There is no denying that for some middle-class Americans, the past few years have indeed been a struggle. What is missing from Mr Obama’s speeches is any hint that this is not the whole story: that globalisation brings down prices and increases consumer choice; that unemployment is low by historical standards; that American companies are still the world’s most dynamic and creative; and that Americans still, on the whole, live lives of astonishing affluence.

A university professor allegedly caught in a Saudi-style honey trap has been sentenced to 180 lashes and eight months in jail — for having coffee with a girl.

The man, a prominent and well-respected Saudi teacher of psychology at Umm al-Qra University in the holy city of Mecca, was framed by the religious police after he angered some of their members at a training course, his lawyer said.

What we cannot afford, in my view, is to squander the progress that has been made. In fact, we should step up our financial and material assistance. UNHCR has appealed for $261 million this year to provide for refugees and internally displaced persons. That is not a small amount of money — but it is less than the U.S. spends each day to fight the war in Iraq. I would like to call on each of the presidential candidates and congressional leaders to announce a comprehensive refugee plan with a specific timeline and budget as part of their Iraq strategy.

As for the question of whether the surge is working, I can only state what I witnessed: U.N. staff and those of non-governmental organizations seem to feel they have the right set of circumstances to attempt to scale up their programs. And when I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq. They have lost many friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is possible.

It seems to me that now is the moment to address the humanitarian side of this situation. Without the right support, we could miss an opportunity to do some of the good we always stated we intended to do.

Barack Obama has ratcheted up his attacks on NAFTA, but a senior member of his campaign team told a Canadian official not to take his criticisms seriously, CTV News has learned.

Both Obama and Hillary Clinton have been critical of the long-standing North American Free Trade Agreement over the course of the Democratic primaries, saying that the deal has cost U.S. workers’ jobs.

Within the last month, a top staff member for Obama’s campaign telephoned Michael Wilson, Canada’s ambassador to the United States, and warned him that Obama would speak out against NAFTA, according to Canadian sources.

The staff member reassured Wilson that the criticisms would only be campaign rhetoric, and should not be taken at face value.

Obama has some problem here it seems. His loyal, star-struck groupies might want to take notice. He seems to be suffering from one of the Libeal maladies I have diagnosed, TDD. Truth Deficit Disorder.

AN exhibition by Danish artists in Berlin has been closed due to threats received over a photo deemed to be offensive to Muslims, organisers said.

The exhibition, which opened in central Berlin on February 22, has been closed to ensure the safety of staff and visitors, Ralf Hartmann from the artists’ collective Kunstverein Tiergarten said today.
