“Environmentally-friendly” Governor draws flak for carbon footprint

Posted in The scurge of PC, Uncategorized on March 9th, 2008 by gatordoug

LA Slimes

Like many of the Californians he represents, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger now spends more than three hours commuting because he lives so far from the office.

But his ride is a private jet.

After flirting briefly with buying a Sacramento abode for his family, then living alone for a while in a 2,000-square-foot hotel penthouse across from the Capitol, the governor has decided to stay nearly every night at his Brentwood mansion.

The commute costs hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, which aides say the governor pays for himself. Some environmentalists say the trips expand his carbon footprint enough to undermine his image as a crusader against global warming, despite the pollution credits he buys to offset the damage.

Personally, I do not care if the Governator flies the length of the state on a daily basis. But, this does point out the blatant hypocrisy of those who follow the religion of climate change. Al Gore, and others do more to damage “Mother Earth”, than the people they demonize for driving SUV’s, or using too much electricity. Another slice of classic Marxism. The “elites” do not have to obey the rules they wish to force upon the people.

Obama’s foreign policy advisor callas him “naive” on telecom immunity

Posted in Politics, Uncategorized, War on Terror on March 9th, 2008 by gatordoug

http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2008/03/intel-adviser-b.html

In a new interview with National Journal magazine, an intelligence adviser to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign broke with his candidate’s position opposing retroactive legal protection for telecommunications companies being sued for cooperating with a dubious U.S. government domestic surveillance program.

“I do believe strongly that [telecoms] should be granted that immunity,” former CIA official John Brennan told National Journal reporter Shane Harris in the interview.  “They were told to [cooperate] by the appropriate authorities that were operating in a legal context.”

“I know people are concerned about that, but I do believe that’s the right thing to do,” added Brennan, who is an intelligence and foreign policy adviser to Obama.

Of course, Obama recently voted against giving telecom companies immunity, and has said he “differs” with Brennan.

Maybe we shoulod vote for Brennan, since he seems to grasp the importance of this bill.

How far leftwards HAS the Democratic Party moved? Read this piece by George McGovern, and compare it to the capaign rhetoric of Obama and Clinton

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120485275086518279.html

Since leaving office I’ve written about public policy from a new perspective: outside looking in. I’ve come to realize that protecting freedom of choice in our everyday lives is essential to maintaining a healthy civil society.

Why do we think we are helping adult consumers by taking away their options? We don’t take away cars because we don’t like some people speeding. We allow state lotteries despite knowing some people are betting their grocery money. Everyone is exposed to economic risks of some kind. But we don’t operate mindlessly in trying to smooth out every theoretical wrinkle in life.

The nature of freedom of choice is that some people will misuse their responsibility and hurt themselves in the process. We should do our best to educate them, but without diminishing choice for everyone else.

The spring before his wife began her White House campaign, former President Bill Clinton earned $700,000 for his foundation by selling stock that he had been given from an Internet search company that was co-founded by a convicted felon and backed by the Chinese government, public records show.

Mr. Clinton had gotten the nonpublicly traded stock from Accoona Corp. back in 2004 as a gift for giving a speech at a company event. He landed the windfall by selling the 200,000 shares to an undisclosed buyer in May 2006, commanding $3.50 a share at a time when the company was reporting millions of dollars of losses, according to interviews.

Times Sqare bombing may be linked to Canadian border incident

Posted in Guns self-defense and liberty, The scurge of PC, Uncategorized, War on Terror on March 8th, 2008 by gatordoug

Nearly a full day after the explosion in Times Square, law enforcement officials said they had no suspects. WNBC.com has learned NYPD, Homeland Security and FBI officials are now revisiting an incident that occurred along the Canadian border last month, concerned there might be a possible connection to the Times Square explosion.

Four men trying to cross the border attempted to flee the checkpoint as Canadian officials tried to question them, investigators said.

Two of the men got away, officials said. The men left behind a backpack with photos of various New York City locations including Times Square, according to sources speaking on condition of anonymity. One of the photos included the military recruitment center, officials said. As a precaution, NYPD outreach officers last month went to various New York City businesses, including the Times Square military recruitment center, to investigate if there had been any specific threats. No threat information was known at the time, a law enforcement source said.

Hmmm, the plot thickens. I still keep going back to the fact that it was a recruiting center that was targeted. Michelle Malkin has an interesting and sobering look at the escalation in Leftist outrage towards recruiters http://michellemalkin.com…war-on-military-recruiters/

More evidence American traitor Adam Gadahn DEAD

Posted in Uncategorized, War on Terror on March 8th, 2008 by gatordoug

http://www.longwarjournal.org…death_rumor_c.php

As US and Pakistani intelligence attempted to determine who else might have been killed in the Jan. 29 US airstrike in North Waziristan that took the life of al Qaeda commander Abu Laith al Libi, a new, unconfirmed report claimed Adam Gadahn, Laith’s American deputy, died in the strike, as did two Kuwaitis and four other terrorists.

Sources inside Pakistan told the Nine/Eleven Finding Answers Foundation that US traitor Adam Gadahn was killed, along with Abu Suhail, Laith’s former deputy; Hamza al Somali, who is presumably of Australian or US nationality; Abu Ubayda Tawari Rakhis al Mutairi, a Kuwaiti national; Abu Adil al Kuwaiti, another Kuwaiti; and at least three Uzbek nationals. “It should be noted that the death of the American Gadahn has not yet been officially confirmed,” the Nine/Eleven Finding Answers Foundation reported.

Adnkronos International said Feb. 5 that Abu Adil al Kuwaiti was reported killed in the North Waziristan airstrike, along with Abu Obeida Tawari al Obeidi, a Saudi.

Speculation about Gadahn’s death surfaced immediately after the airstrike, as Pakistani sources told US and Pakistani news agencies that Gadahn had not been seen or heard from since the strike. Gadahn was purportedly attending the meeting chaired by Laith, who was planning al Qaeda’s 2008 campaign in Afghanistan.

Ah, how sweet this news is my friends. This piece of trash had all the blessings of America, yet rejected his land for terrorism, brutality and evil.

Terror attack in Jerusalem

Posted in Guns self-defense and liberty, Uncategorized, War on Terror on March 6th, 2008 by gatordoug

Tons of info to look at here. This was another evil attack on the Israeli people. One leading question is WHO did it?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,335730,00.html

A gunman entered the library of a rabbinical seminary and opened fire on a crowded nighttime study session Thursday, killing eight people and wounding nine before he was slain, police and rescue workers said. It was the first major militant attack in Jerusalem in more than four years.

Earlier reports said there were two gunmen and quoted a death toll of at least 10.

Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip praised the operation in a statement, and thousands of Palestinians took to the streets of Gaza to celebrate.

Palestinians celebrating such barbarity should not surprise anyone should it. One interesting note in the story is that apparently a student shot the terrorist, ending the carnage. Yehuda Meshi Zahav, head of the Zaka rescue service, entered the library after the attack. “The whole building looked like a slaughterhouse. The floor was covered in blood. The students were in class at the time of the attack,” he said. “The floors are littered with holy books covered in blood.”

Witnesses described a terrifying scene during the shooting, with students jumping out windows to escape.

One of the students, Yitzhak Dadon, said he shot the attacker twice in the head. “I laid on the roof of the study hall, cocked my gun and waited for him. He came out of the library spraying automatic fire,” he said.

Hmmm, armed students saving lives by shooting back? America should take note.

UPDATE 8 arrested in attack on Seminary http://www.cnn.com…eref=rss_topstories

Israeli police have arrested eight people during an investigation into Thursday’s deadly attack at a Jewish seminary in Jerusalem, spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said Saturday.

Rosenfeld would not elaborate on the nature of the investigation or how the eight might be connected to the gunman or the shooting.

Of course the terrorists have been linked to Hezbollah

The attack was planned and conceived by the Free Men of Galilee, an operation with purported ties to Hezbollah, the Shiite militant group in Lebanon, sources in Gaza said.

The information was provided to CNN amid news reports that Hamas, the Palestinian movement that runs Gaza, claimed responsibility for the attack.

But the sources said that Hamas in the West Bank and Gaza are not claiming responsibility for the attack and that the Hamas military wing says it had nothing to do with it.

Speaker Face-Lift may steal earmark reform from GOP

Posted in Politics, Uncategorized on March 6th, 2008 by gatordoug

http://www.cqpolitics.com…000002682132′

House Democrats are discussing a plan to hijack a signature issue of the opposition party: earmarks.

Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer and senior Democratic aides said that Speaker Nancy Pelosi , other party leaders and their staffs were examining a moratorium on appropriations earmarks.

“I don’t know that that is going to happen. But we are discussing it,” said Hoyer, D-Md.

An earmark cutoff would be a dramatic change to business as usual. Incumbents would no longer be able to point to such directed spending to demonstrate a local benefit to sending them to Washington.

But it would also co-opt a GOP campaign theme and, despite the potential political handicap to Democratic incumbents, Pelosi is considering the move as a demonstration of fiscal responsibility.

Hey, hijacking GOP initiatives worked for Clinton after the 1994 mid-terms didn’t it?

The Rezko plot thickens. Did he get jobs for Obama staffers?

Posted in Politics, Uncategorized on March 6th, 2008 by gatordoug

http://www.suntimes.com…watchcorner06.article

Did Barack Obama use indicted campaign fund-raiser Tony Rezko as a conduit to get jobs for people in Gov. Blagojevich’s administration?

The question arises from a list of 39 people Rezko’s lawyers said in a court filing he urged Blagojevich to give state jobs.

Among those on the list were two people who appear to have Obama links and a third who’s now an Obama presidential campaign staffer.

But did the names come from Obama? His campaign staff’s short answer: Don’t know — but it’s possible.

“We do not know how decisions were made to fill specific state positions, and we have no records of any individual recommendations we were asked to make or made,” says Obama spokesman Bill Burton “But we do know that Tony Rezko, among others, was helping to gather names for the positions coming open with a new administration, and, if it is established any names came through our office, we would have no reason to doubt it.”

Obama seems to be sinking deeper and deeper into this quagmire. His camp is not denying anything, they are instead playing the “not sure” card.

As Ed Morrissey at Hot Air points out, once the Rezko trial really gets going, it might get very ugly for Obama. Of course, we have to wonder how much the media will get into reporting this. And we must wonder if the public will see this as Obama just being another politician or if they will see it as a crucial flaw.

Of course she is doing a wise thing, admitting Obama is not ready, but adding that neither is Hillary Clinton. So, if the voters see no difference in foreign policy experience, then it goes back to likability. We know who wins that don’t we?

In addition, she paints Obama as a man with the judgement not to support the war, a mistake, according to Obama anyway, that McCain and Clinton both made.

Senate Democrats annouce budget plan-HIDE YOUR WALLETS!

Posted in Politics, Uncategorized on March 5th, 2008 by gatordoug

http://www.washingtonpost.com…AR2008030402741.html

Senate Democrats unveiled a budget plan yesterday that would inject billions of additional dollars into such domestic priorities as education, energy and transportation, while providing $35 billion for a second round of government spending aimed at stimulating a weak economy.

The spending would push the federal deficit to more than $350 billion in fiscal 2009, but Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) said the blueprint would erase the deficit within four years, producing a $160 billion surplus in 2013.

To get there, however, Democrats assume all of President Bush’s first-term tax cuts would expire on schedule in 2010, bringing in billions in revenue. But if the most popular tax measures were extended, as the two Democratic presidential candidates have promised, the surplus would all but evaporate, Conrad said.

Is public funding for campaigns doomed?

Posted in Politics, Uncategorized on March 5th, 2008 by gatordoug

http://online.wsj.com…main_commentaries

Is 2008 the last hurrah for public — that is, taxpayer — financing of presidential campaigns? Since 1976, taxpayers have shelled out about $3 billion in current dollars to pay for presidential campaigns. That includes campaigns by John Hagelin, Lyndon LaRouche, Lenora Fulani, Ralph Nader, Sen. Alan Cranston, Milton Schaap, Ruben Askew, and other also-rans. Funds have also paid for balloon drops at the party’s conventions, negative TV ads, robocalls and more.

But this year, most leading presidential contenders refused to take the public subsidy — and accompanying spending limits — during the primaries. One exception has been Sen. John McCain. But faced with certain campaign realities, he too is now looking for a way out and is arguing that he has a constitutional right to withdraw from the public funding system for the primaries and, instead, rely on private money. Sen. Barack Obama said last year that he would accept taxpayer financing in the general election if the Republican nominee did too, but he has backed away from that promise.

Good reading, anmd I would hope the sibsidy does come to an end.

U.S. forces found, targeted and killed in a Somali desert city the senior al Qaeda operative who masterminded the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa and had since spent a decade in hiding, The Washington Times has learned.

Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, who is one of the FBI’s most-wanted terrorists, was the target of a U.S. missile strike on a residence in Dobley, a small town in southern Somalia near the Kenyan border, according to a U.S. military official who spoke to The Times on the condition of anonymity because of the nature of the operation.

Michelle Obama: America is mean!

http://www.newyorker.com…collins?currentPage=3

Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents. “We have become a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day,” she said, as heads bobbed in the pews. “Folks are just jammed up, and it’s gotten worse over my lifetime. And, doggone it, I’m young. Forty-four!”

Ah, smell the Marxism, the class warfare, the bitterness. This is typical Liberalism at work. Convince people they are in bad shape, convince them they are victims and that they are owed something. Something, that only government, of course, can grant them.

Sadly, many Americans just LOVE themselves some pity parties. Combine that trait with the delusion that government cand and should solve all of our problems, and you habe your typical Liberal voter.

controversial new Hillary Clinton attack ad caused an Internet stir Tuesday among critics who claim it deliberately darkens Barack Obama’s skin color.

The buzz began earlier the day, when the liberal Web site DailyKos.com showed side-by-side screen grabs of Barack Obama taken during a debate with Clinton in Cleveland last week. The screen grab used in the ad showed a clearly darker-skinned Obama, prompting some to wonder if it was done to highlight his race.

Student who flushed Korans gets community service

A former Pace University student who twice threw copies of the Koran into a toilet at the school after disputes with Muslims pleaded guilty Monday to disorderly conduct in connection with the incidents.

Stanislav Shmulevich, 24, pleaded guilty as part of a deal in which he must do 300 hours of community service. He has completed about 80 hours of the service at a hospital, his lawyer said.

Shmulevich, of Brooklyn, admitted he tossed the Muslim holy books into toilets at Pace on Oct. 13, 2006, and Nov. 21, 2006. A criminal complaint says the Koran that was recovered in the October incident “was covered in feces.”

300 hours? Really? Does this seem excessive to anyone? I wonder, if he had flushed bibles, or burnt US flags, would he have received the same punishment?

Byron York on Obama and NAFTA Gate

Posted in Politics, Uncategorized on March 4th, 2008 by gatordoug

Good read on national Review. York reviews the evidence of the pst week or so, and ties it together.

http://article.nationalreview.com…kMzY2NTU2NjY

It began last week, when Canada’s CTV television network reported that, in early February, a representative of the Obama campaign assured Canadian officials that they need not take Obama’s NAFTA threats seriously, that those threats were just political rhetoric intended to win Midwestern primaries. The campaign, and the Canadian government, initially denied everything. “The Canadian ambassador issued a statement saying that the story was absolutely false,” top Obama adviser Susan Rice said Thursday night on MSNBC. “There had been no such contact. There had been no discussions on NAFTA.” Obama himself, asked about the story the next day, said, “It did not happen.”

But it turned out that there had been contact, and something did indeed happen. Later news reports identified the Obama adviser as Austan Goolsbee, a professor of economics at the University of Chicago who serves as a senior adviser to the Obama campaign. Those reports said Goolsbee met with officials at the Canadian consulate in Chicago, where the NAFTA discussion allegedly took place.
OK, status quo Obama denies any wrongdoing, and hopes it just blows over. BUT, then….

Then a report from the Associated Press pulled the rug out from under Obama. The report cited a memo written as a record of the February 8 meeting between Goolsbee and a man named Georges Rioux, the Canadian consul general in Chicago. The document was written by Joseph DeMora, a consulate staffer who was in the meeting.

“Noting anxiety among many U.S. domestic audiences about the U.S. economic outlook, Goolsbee candidly acknowledged the protectionist sentiment that has emerged, particularly in the Midwest, during the primary campaign,” the memo said, according to AP. “He cautioned that this messaging should not be taken out of context and should be viewed as more about political positioning than a clear articulation of policy plans.”

OUCH! That one has to hurt! Now the issue at hand for Obamamania is that they are running out of denials that stand up under scrutiny. It is starting to look like the Obama camp is stuck in the lying zone, they are seemingly telling new lies to cover their old lies.

Now the question is will the media hammer this story? Bonus question, will the Americans so smitten with Obama allow this to wake them up?

UN imposes meaningless, impotent sanctions on Iran

Posted in Uncategorized, War on Terror on March 4th, 2008 by gatordoug

http://www.washingtonpost.com…nav=rss_politics

Just five months after President Bush warned that Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons could lead to “World War III,” the White House had to settle for a watered-down U.N. resolution that makes most trade and financial sanctions voluntary. The Security Council voted 14 to 0 to sanction Iran for refusing to stop its uranium-enrichment program, falling one short of the unanimous vote the White House sought to signal the international community’s resolve.

Voluntary sanctions? Good grief, talk about UN impotentence and weakness. They not only issue meaningless sanctions against Iran, but basically tell Iran that they can just ignore them if they want to. The UN, like tits on a boar!
