Heartache for Doomsday Cult

Posted in News you can use on March 30th, 2008 by gatordoug

Damn it all, despite their efforts, the world is still here

SEVEN female members of a Russian cult have come out of the cave where they have been awaiting the end of the world, but 28 people are still underground, Russian media reported today.

The doomsday cult members have been barricaded in a cave dug out of a hillside in the Penza region of central Russia since October.

They have been refusing to come out until the end of the world, which they predict will happen in May.

This elephant likely supported Fred Thompson

Posted in News you can use on March 30th, 2008 by gatordoug

Yes, some elephants ARE smarter than others, like some Republicans are smarter than others. The elephant in this video, likely has a Fred.08 hat somewhere.

And yes, you DO detect a note of sarcasm and bitterness in my Fred Thompson reference. If you do not understand it, compare McCain’s speeches with Thompson’s.

Politically correct “Sugar-Free school” backfires

Posted in News you can use, The scurge of PC on March 24th, 2008 by gatordoug

PC, is, to put it mildly, an affront to freedom and humannature. So, I love to read stories like this one

With candy sales banned on school campuses, sugar pushers are the latest trend at local schools. Backpacks are filled with Snickers and Twinkees for all sweet tooths willing to pay the price.

“It’s created a little underground economy, with businessmen selling everything from a pack of skittles to an energy drink,” said Jim Nason, principal at Hook Junior High School in Victorville.

This has become a lucrative business, Nason said, and those kids are walking around campus with upwards of $40 in their pockets and disrupting class to make a sale.

Schools have been individually banning junk-food sales for years, and enforcement was increased in 2005 when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger passed legislation to combat childhood obesity, according to the office of the governor.

What’s a funeral without a —stripper??

Posted in News you can use on March 24th, 2008 by gatordoug

Your funny, off-beat, twisted, pecuilar and FREAKY post of the day! A STRIPPER was hired by a son to perform at the funeral of his 103-year-old dad, who enjoyed visiting gentlemen’s clubs.

According to reports the exotic dancer entertained the mourners for about 10 minutes when she danced around the coffin.

Cai Jinlai was 103 when he died – and reportedly left behind more than 100 descendants.

Ok, so, you need flowers dollar bills at funerals now.

Robbery by hypnosis

Posted in News you can use on March 23rd, 2008 by gatordoug

I always wondered if hypnosis really worked. If  this story is true, then I wonder if Salma Hayek or Cote de Pablo would “look into my eyes”?

Italian police have issued video footage of a man who has been hypnotizing supermarket checkout staff and getting them to hand over the cash.

In every case, according to reports, the last thing staff remember is a man leaning over and saying ‘Look into my eyes’ before suddenly finding the till is empty.

The BIG BIG bang!

Posted in News you can use on March 23rd, 2008 by gatordoug

Your Sunday explosion in space post! BOOM!!

The most powerful blast ever observed in the universe detonated on Wednesday. That day, a record four gamma-ray bursts were detected by NASA’s Swift telescope.

If you knew exactly when and where to look, you could have seen the bright burst with the naked eye, despite its enormous distance of 7.5 billion light years. “This burst definitely has an ‘oh wow’ flavour,” says astrophysicist Ralph Wijers of the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Gamma-ray bursts are brief but extremely powerful flashes of high-energy radiation. Theorists think they signal the violent death of very massive, rapidly rotating stars.

Moron keeps gun in oven, with predictable results

Posted in Guns self-defense and liberty, News you can use on March 23rd, 2008 by gatordoug

Something tells me this jackass was NOT an NRA member! Gun + Oven =

A man has been charged with child endangerment and unlawful gun use after a gun that he apparently kept in the oven went off and wounded two children in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Anthony Smith, 24, was charged with two counts of endangering the life of a child and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, after the two boys, 4 and 12, were wounded when the gun went off as the oven was being heated.

The sister of the two boys was cooking at the stove at 3:55 p.m. Friday at a home in the 4800 block of South Racine Avenue, when she heard loud noises coming from it, police said. The sister heard the 4-year-old boy cry out and saw blood coming from his leg, and the older boy was hit in the head with flying debris.

What I could do with this

Posted in Culture, News you can use on March 23rd, 2008 by gatordoug

There are yachts, and they are OK, but the GIGAYACHT ! That is the dream ticket!

In decades gone by, a 180-foot personal superyacht was enough to establish yourself as a seriously wealthy owner—but over the last ten years, in the spirit of excess, the megayacht emerged, at over 220 feet long. And when the ostentatious mega-rich start competing, enormous isn’t nearly big enough. Over the last ten years, several yachts have been built over the 320-foot mark.

WallyIsland isn’t the first of this new breed of luxury gigayachts—nor is it the largest. Paul Allen’s Octopus, for example is a 410-foot monster built by Lürssen, and the Sheikh of Dubai (where else?) currently owns the world’s largest luxury motoryacht at a staggering 525 feet long. A 405-footer by Frank Mulder was even auctioned off recently on eBay. WallyIsland, though, does have some unique features.

Heartbreak! Iran will not endorse anyone for president!

Posted in News you can use on March 12th, 2008 by gatordoug

How will Code Pink members EVER know who to vote for?

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini earlier this week announced that Iran’s leaders will not support any U.S. candidate running for president, according to a report posted on IRNA, the country’s official news agency.

Hosseini added that Iran hoped the presidential elections “would bring about serious changes in the incorrect approach of the present administration.”

Meanwhile, London Mayor Ken Livingstone probably can cross Iran off his list of political supporters, too, after telling a gathering of Jewish community leaders that the idea of a society run by ayatollahs is “horrifying” and “completely wrong.”

He then called Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a “barking mad.”

Study: People become more Liberal with age

Posted in Culture, News you can use on March 11th, 2008 by gatordoug

Yahoo News

The stereotype of a cranky old man, set in his ways, getting more conservative by the day, is an enduring one. But new research has debunked the myth that people become more conservative as they age.

By comparing surveys of various age groups taken over a span of more than 30 years, sociologists found that in general, Americans’ opinions veer toward the liberal as they grow older.

“All the evidence we have found refutes the idea that as people age their attitudes become more conservative or more rigid,” said Nicholas Danigelis, a sociologist at the University of Vermont. “It’s just not true. More people are changing in a liberal direction than in a conservative direction.”

Hmm, senility?

“It just doesn’t belong there,” said Chris Fillichio, a lifelong Boca Raton resident. “It doesn’t fit the community appearance protocol.”

The city beach is “not Coney Island.” What’s next? A stand selling sunscreen? Then hats and then condoms? he asked.

Aw, come on folks. Get your nose out of the air and buy a hot dog.

Kentucky lawmaker wants to ban anonymous blog postings

Posted in Culture, News you can use, The scurge of PC on March 10th, 2008 by gatordoug

More RINOism

Rep. Tim Couch, R-Hyden, filed a bill that would require anyone posting on interactive Web sites to first register using their legal names, addresses and valid e-mail addresses. Couch, however, said he won’t push the bill — he just wants to draw attention to the growing presence of anonymous and often mean-spirited comments on Web sites.

“This is something the people back home wanted,” he said.

Couch said parents in his district who are concerned about anonymous postings on Web logs, or blogs, about their children approached him.

Jon Fleischaker, a Louisville attorney who represents the Kentucky Press Association, said such a law would be unconstitutional.

See, not ALL the big government ideas come from Democrats! Well, OK, 99% do, but some Republicans are idiots too!

The obligatory 101-year-old marathon runner post

Posted in Culture, News you can use on March 9th, 2008 by gatordoug

ABC News

Buster Martin is an unlikely candidate to set a marathon record. He drinks beer, smokes cigarettes and stays out late. And he’s 101.

But Martin expects to shatter, or at least ease past, the record next month when he runs London’s marathon. And he is counting on having a beer at the finish line.

My kind of runner!
