The state Education Department on Monday directed a Minnesota charter school to “correct” two areas related to religion at the school.Tarik ibn Zayad Academy, which focuses on Middle Eastern culture and shares a mosque with the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, came under fire after a teacher alleged that the school was offering religious instruction in Islam to its students.“The Minnesota Department of Education goes to great lengths to make clear to charter schools and their sponsors that, while schools should appropriately accomodate students’ religious beliefs, they must be ‘nonsectarian’ under the state’s charter school law,” said the state’s education Deputy Commissioner Chas Anderson.

Getting a quickie divorce has taken on a whole new meaning in Malaysia after it was decided that a man can divorce his wife with a text message.The government’s adviser on religious affairs, the man who counsels Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, said as long as the message was clear and unambiguous it was valid under Islamic Sharia law. “SMS is just another form of writing,” Dr Abdul Hamid Othman was quoted by the New Straits Times daily newspaper as saying.The decision follows a Malaysian court’s ruling on Thursday in favour of a man who served divorce on his wife via a text message.

Buoyed by the blockbuster success of “Iron Man” over the weekend, Marvel Studios on Monday announced plans for a string of superhero properties, including an “Iron Man” sequel set for April 2010.

“Iron Man 2″ will be followed in June 2010 by the big-screen adaptation of another of Marvel’s popular comic book characters, “Thor,” the mighty, hammer-wielding hero based on the Nordic god of the same name, the company said.

“Captain America” and “The Avengers” are next in line for the summer of 2011.

The nearly $99 million opening weekend of “Iron Man,” Marvel’s first fully self-financed production, gave Hollywood’s summer movie season a solid start and set the stage for a robust earnings report from the studio’s corporate parent, Marvel Entertainment Inc.

A Brown University student was apprehended by Brown University police last night after allegedly throwing a green pie container filled with what appeared to be green whipped cream at a New York Times columnist who had been invited to speak to students about energy, Brown said in a statement this morning.Thomas Friedman ducked the pies, which were thrown by two people who rushed the stage just after he stepped to the microphone. He avoided the brunt of the contents, stepped off stage for a few minutes, and returned to deliver his speech.The two rushed the stage with the pies, and then threw fliers into the crowd which aired their criticisms of Friedman’s views on the free market and climate change.

The idea that a Creator could be of only one sex is absurd on its face. Robyn Hooker, principal of Kent Gardens Elementary School, has told students they may no longer play tag during recess after determining that the game of chasing, dodging and yelling “You’re it!” had gotten out of hand. Hooker explained to parents in a letter this month that tag had become a game “of intense aggression.”The principal said that her goal is to keep students safe and that she hopes to restore tag (as well as touch football, also now on hold) after teachers and administrators review recess policies.The decision has touched off a debate among parents. Some call the restriction an example of overzealous rulemaking that fails to address root problems and undermines children’s development; others say it’s best to err on the side of caution.“We are regulating the fun out of normal childhood activity,” said Jan van Tol, father of a Kent Gardens sixth-grader. “In our effort to be so overprotective, we are not letting children be children.”

Oh Lord, how did millions of children who were lucky enough to miss the hypersensitivity bandwagon and PC EVER survive? Remember the Minnesota tax-funded Muslim school? Well, it seems that the victicrats at CAIR are screaming hate crimes just as the school is being investigated by the state. I, like Michelle Malkin have to question the timing of this.

The Minnesota chapter of a national Islamic civil liberties group has asked the FBI and local law enforcement officers to investigate reported threats against a Twin Cities charter school as possible hate crimes, while a Jewish organization deplored the threats.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) made the request Monday after the director of Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy in Inver Grove Heights told police that he and the school had received threatening and harassing phone messages and e-mails.

The group is concerned about the safety of the school’s students, many of whom are Muslim, said CAIR chapter coordinator Chris Schumacher. Tagging the threats as possible hate crimes also makes it clear that prejudice could have prompted them, and “we wanted to bring that to light in case that wasn’t already obvious to people,” he said.

Surely if threats have been made, they ought to be investigated. The trouble is that CAIR, and other have, shall we say, a history of crying wolf. Power Line and Daniel Pipes and Michelle Malkin have all documented.

Well intended? Surely! But then again so are zero-tolerance rules in our schools. This bill is far too broad, given our compete lack of common sense as a society. A bill that passed the House last month aims to strengthen the crime of visual sexual aggression against children, according to state Rep. Dawn Hill, D-York.Her involvement started when Ogunquit Police Lt. David Alexander was called to a local beach to deal with a man who appeared to be observing children entering the community bathrooms. Because the state statute prevents arrests for visual sexual aggression of a child in a public place, Alexander said he and his fellow officer could only ask the man to move along.“There was no violation of law that we could enforce. There was nothing we could charge him with,” Alexander said.He attended a talk with Hill a week later and brought the case to her attention. Hill pledged to do what she could, Alexander said, and the result was a change through the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee in the House, which made the law applicable in both private and public places….

[Pincham’s] faith was a faith in a God who loved the whole world not just one country or one creed.”

Yes, really focus on his words. He spews hate, then bemoans the hate of others? He demonizes those who hold different views then whines about loving those you disagree with?
