Leftist heartache! Terrorism down across the globe

Posted in War on Terror on May 22nd, 2008 by gatordoug

The source? The UN! I guess the UN is a right wing organization now?

A study released on Wednesday reports a decline in fatal attacks of terrorism worldwide and says U.S. think-tank data showing sharp increases were distorted due to the inclusion of killings in Iraq.“Even if the Iraq ‘terrorism’ data are included, there has still been a substantial decline in the global terrorism toll,” said the 2007 Human Security Brief, an annual report funded by the governments of Canada, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden and Britain.

For example, global terrorism fatalities declined by 40 percent between July and September 2007, driven by a 55 percent decline in the “terrorism” death toll in Iraq after the so-called surge of new U.S. troops and a cease-fire by the Shi’ite militant Mehdi Army, the brief said.

“We have concluded that the expert consensus (on terrorism) is probably misleading,” Andrew Mack, director of the Human Security Report Project, told a news conference.

Tell me again how John McCain GETS the message on immigration?  Is this how McCain defines “getting it”?

Republican presidential candidate John McCain joined Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in calling today for comprehensive immigration reform, including guest worker visas to bring employees to California’s Silicon Valley and the state’s vast agricultural fields. The two men brought up the issue at McCain’s prompting during a global competitiveness roundtable featuring California technology executives and entrepreneurs.

Asked by Silicon Valley panelists on what he would do to grant more visa for skilled technology workers, McCain broadly advocated the comprehensive immigration reform plan he had backed with Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy in Congress.

 There he goes again!

Oh those economic morons in the Senate

Posted in Taxes on May 22nd, 2008 by gatordoug

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee summoned top executives to Capitol Hill, to explain why gas prices are so darned high, and  most importantly in their minds, to make themselves seem important, righteously indignant, and to convince Americans that they are looking out for us.

Among those executives summoned were Robert Malone, Chairman and President of BP America, Inc.; John Hofmeister, President, Shell Oil Company; Peter Robertson, Vice Chairman of the Board, Chevron Corporation; John Lowe, Executive Vice President, Conoco Philips Company; and Stephen Simon, Senior Vice President, Exxon Mobil Corporation. And, as Michelle Malkin points out, these men stole the show.

But, of course, we ought to have expected, the people that actually do business know a whole lot more than those that do nothing but take money from American businesses and individuals to score political points, and create more entitlements. Of course, we are not supposed to see through today’s Senatorial grand standing are we?

Nope! We are, instead, supposed to swoon at how the wonderful Senators on the Judiciary Committee care about us little people aren’t we? We are supposed to look wide-eyed at each other and say ” Oh my, see, they really like us and are protecting our interests!” Hogwash!

They care about expanding their power, and keeping us as suckings at the national teat is paramount to that end isn’t it? Yes, my friends it is. These senators are following not our Founders guidelines, but those of Marx and Engels.

Not only are the members of this committee trying to pull the wool over our collective eyes, but they are proving just how clueless they are about basic economics. Of course, they are betting we will not examine their words and actions. They are betting that we will not think with our heads but rather with our emotions.

They are betting that we will be so angry about fuel prices that we will never look at reality. Instead they figure Americans will buy the “evil oil companies” lie. As long as it is fed to us enough times, we are bound to buy into it aren’t we? Surely!

So the question now is are they right? Will we think? Will we look at facts? Will we understand basic economics better that our would be masters? Or will we just accept their phony outrage and their political circus act?

As you read this, ask yourself how these pinheads ever got out of grade school, much less rose to the rank of US Senator.

Of course, this was about the Senate Democrats, and some Senate Republicans trying to score cheap political points by pretending to scold the evil oil barons for ripping off hard working Americans.

The fact is, these Senators ought to be working on doing what they CAN do to ease the burden of high gas prices. How about allowing America to drill for AMERICA’S oil? Sure we know, it would not help for a period of years, but it WILL help sooner if we start sooner.

The Senate COULD take actions that WOULD help, but they much prefer to sit there pretending they are fixing the problem when, in fact they ARE much of the problem!

Why is America NOT using nuclear energy? Why are we not building new refineries? Why are we not using OUR own resources? Instead we talk of windfall profit taxes? Those were disastrous when tried before. Are our Senators insane enough to think they would work today?

I find it odd, nay, I find it despicable that our Senate calls oil companies to answer for something that is not their fault. And while our Senators bluster and present themselves as acting in our interest, they have in fact done every damned thing they could to stymie our energy production.

They have regulated, and OVER regulated the oil companies, they have blocked, and continue to block, nuclear energy, and other alternative energy sources. They have heaped regulations and taxes onto the oil companies at OUR expense.

They bitch and whine about our energy dependence, then turn around and do all they can to KEEP us dependent on foreign oil. They do not possess the willingness to seriously look at mending the problem. Instead they can only look for ways to gouge oil companies, and in the process, us, of course, for all they can.

Awful news: Senator Kennedy diagnosed with brain tumor

Posted in Politics on May 20th, 2008 by gatordoug

Please say some prayers for him and his family. This is terrible news

US Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the veteran lawmaker from Massachusetts who is the last surviving brother in the legendary Kennedy family, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said today.

Specialists in Boston and around the country said the information released indicated that Kennedy has terminal cancer and might have only a limited time to live.

Kennedy’s doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital, who had been investigating the cause of a seizure that led to Kennedy’s hospitalization this weekend, said that preliminary results from a brain biopsy indicated the seizure had been caused by a tumor in the top left portion of his brain.

The usual course of treatment for the tumor — a malignant glioma — includes combinations of various forms of radiation and chemotherapy, Dr. Lee Schwamm, vice chairman of the neurology department at the hospital, and Dr. Larry Ronan, Kennedy’s primary care physician, said in a statement.

The PC menu at the Democratic Convention

Posted in The scurge of PC on May 19th, 2008 by gatordoug

What else would we expect? To Dems fried food is a bad trip dude!

Fried foods are forbidden at the committee’s 22 or so events, as is liquid served in individual plastic containers. Plates must be reusable, like china, recyclable or compostable. The food should be local, organic or both. And caterers must provide foods in “at least three of the following five colors: red, green, yellow, blue/purple, and white,” garnishes not included, according to a Request for Proposals, or RFP, distributed last week.

The shrimp-and-mango ensemble? All it’s got is white, brown and orange, so it may not have the nutritional balance that generally comes from a multihued menu.

“Blue could be a challenge,” joked Ed Janos, owner of Cook’s Fresh Market in Denver. “All I can think of are blueberries.”

A peak into Obama’s mindset

Posted in Climate change mania on May 19th, 2008 by gatordoug

Hmmm, it seems Obama might lean towards telling us what to drive, how much to eat, and how cold/hot or home ought to be. Check it out!

Trust me, think this out to its logical solution folks. Add these things up THEN re-consider Obama’s statements. Fat people, and SUV drivers, and folks who keep their homes at comfortable temperatures are causing global warming according to Obama, so, if he says we CANNOT eat, and drive what we want, then what is next? Think about that!

“But I also think these folks should lay off my wife,” he told “GMA” as his wife chuckled beside him.

News crew attacked at Muslim school

Posted in Culture on May 19th, 2008 by gatordoug

There is a video at the link. It looks like this school has some serious explaining to do

The state Education Department on Monday directed a Minnesota charter school to “correct” two areas related to religion at the school.Tarik ibn Zayad Academy, which focuses on Middle Eastern culture and shares a mosque with the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, came under fire after a teacher alleged that the school was offering religious instruction in Islam to its students.“The Minnesota Department of Education goes to great lengths to make clear to charter schools and their sponsors that, while schools should appropriately accomodate students’ religious beliefs, they must be ‘nonsectarian’ under the state’s charter school law,” said the state’s education Deputy Commissioner Chas Anderson.

The allegations first surfaced after an article by a columnist for the Star Tribune. The Education Department subsequently began a review of the suburban Inver Grove Heights school and released its findings Monday.

The agency said it was concerned about the school, with about 300 students, accommodating communal prayer and providing transportation to an after-school religious program.

“We have directed the school to take appropriate corrective actions regarding these matters and will continue to provide oversight to ensure that the school is in compliance with state and federal law,” Anderson said.

In an attempt to report about the new findings from the Department of Education, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS went to TiZA. While on school grounds, our crew was attacked by school officials. The two men were able to grab our camera and kept it until police arrived.

John McCain blasts Obama on Iran stance

Posted in Uncategorized on May 19th, 2008 by gatordoug

Hot Air has the video

Say what you will about Senator McCain, he has a grasp of national security concerns that Obama does not.

McCain was responding to this bit of wisdom from Obama

Well, Iran is NOT the power the Soviet Union was, but it is foolish to downplay what Iran could do if they ever get nuclear weapons. After all, we KNOW what 19 hijackers did don’t we?

UPDATE!! Obama adjusts his statements on Iran

OK, it turns out the Messiah does think Iran is a threat, no wait, a grave threat.

“Here’s the truth: the Soviet Union had thousands of nuclear weapons and Iran doesn’t have a single one. But when the world was on the brink of nuclear Holocaust, Kennedy talked to Khrushchev and he got those missiles out of Cuba. Why shouldn’t we have the same courage and confidence to talk to our enemies? That’s what strong countries do. That’s what strong presidents do.”

One BIG difference Barry. Kennedy did not “talk” to the Soviets with no pre-conditions. He laid down the law and The Soviets backed down.

Obama repeatedly stressed the risk posed by Iran, as he suggested that danger has grown because of policies supported by McCain. “Iran is a grave threat. It has an illicit nuclear program. It supports terrorism across the region and militias in Iraq. It threatens Israel’s existence. It denies the Holocaust,” he said. “The reason Iran is so much more powerful than it was a few years ago is because of the Bush-McCain policy of fighting in Iraq and refusing to pursue direct diplomacy with Iran. They’re the ones who have not dealt with Iran wisely.”

Ah, so he agrees Iran is a threat but only because of President Bush? I suppose if we had just been nicer, dare I say more appeasing, Iran would not be a threat? Their president would not be threatening Israel? Or running a proxy war in Iraq? Or arming and training terrorists? Good grief, talk about naive!

Let this serve as the latest example as to why NOTHING IS FREE! Someone always has to pay!

The federal government’s long-term financial obligations grew by $2.5 trillion last year, a reflection of the mushrooming cost of Medicare and Social Security benefits as more baby boomers reach retirement.

That’s double the red ink of a year earlier.

Taxpayers are on the hook for a record $57.3 trillion in federal liabilities to cover the lifetime benefits of everyone eligible for Medicare, Social Security and other government programs, a USA TODAY analysis found. That’s nearly $500,000 per household.

When obligations of state and local governments are added, the total rises to $61.7 trillion, or $531,472 per household. That is more than four times what Americans owe in personal debt such as mortgages.

Al-qaeda operative detained in Yemen

Posted in War on Terror on May 19th, 2008 by gatordoug

The US has been trying to extradite this goon, so he can stand trial, for years now. But, will he stay “detained” long? Do not hold your breath, and don’t even think about that extradition.

Jaber Elbaneh, the al-Qaeda operative who had roamed free in Yemen despite a $5 million reward offered by the U.S. government for his capture, was jailed Sunday by a Yemeni judge.

According to Yemen’s official news agency, a judge ordered Elbaneh’s arrest after prosecutors filed a request to lock him up. Elbaneh is one of three dozen Yemeni defendants being tried on charges of conspiring to blow up oil installations in 2006. Until Sunday, prosecutors had allowed Elbaneh to remain free while the trial proceeded in Sanaa, the capital, in spite of recent demands from FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III and other U.S. officials that he be imprisoned. U.S. officials welcomed the news. “We have been waiting for the arrest of this wanted terrorist for a long time,” said an official at the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “Elbaneh’s arrest sends the right message that terrorists will be held accountable for their crimes.”

It is unclear, however, how long Elbaneh, 41, a U.S.-Yemeni citizen, will remain behind bars. Senior Yemeni officials have expressed doubts about whether Elbaneh is guilty and have said they will not extradite him to the United States, citing a constitutional ban on deporting Yemeni citizens to other countries.

31,000 scientists reject global warming hypotesis

Gorezilla must be going nuts over this

Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM)

Who: Dr. Arthur Robinson of the OISM

What: release of names in OISM “Petition Project”

When: 10 AM, Monday May 19

Where: Holeman Lounge at the National Press Club, 529 14th St., NW, Washington, DC

Why: the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) will announce that more than 31,000 scientists have signed a petition rejecting claims of human-caused global warming. The purpose of OISM’s Petition Project is to demonstrate that the claim of “settled science” and an overwhelming “consensus” in favor of the hypothesis of human-caused global warming and consequent climate damage is wrong. No such consensus or settled science exists. As indicated by the petition text and signatory list, a very large number of American scientists reject this hypothesis.

It is evident that 31,072 Americans with university degrees in science - including 9,021 PhDs, are not “a few.” Moreover, from the clear and strong petition statement that they have signed, it is evident that these 31,072 American scientists are not “skeptics.”

A man has been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly stomping a tiny puppy to death because it wasn’t house trained. Police say a Bessemer City man confessed to killing the chihuahua mix because he was sick of the dog. He allegedly confessed while on his way to jail.

Sherry Thomas said her daughter, Crystal Williams, ran to her house describing what Williams’ boyfriend had done to their new puppy.

“My daughter says she heard quite a few bangs, she didn’t know what it was til she went out and she saw blood coming out of its mouth,” Thomas said.
