An artist killed herself after aborting her twins when she was eight weeks pregnant, leaving a note saying: “I should never have had an abortion. I see now I would have been a good mum.”

Her suicide note read: “I told everyone I didn’t want to do it, even at the hospital. I was frightened, now it is too late. I died when my babies died. I want to be with my babies: they need me, no-one else does.”

Tragic. But many women who have abortions deal with depression and regret later when they realize what abortion really is.

Furious Muslims have heavily criticised Walkers crisps after it emerged that certain varieties of the manufacturer’s products contain trace elements of alcohol.

But in the aftermath of today’s New York Times story looking at McCain’s dealings with a Washington lobbyist, the mood is decidedly different. Before McCain boarded his plane, reporters were asked to sit farther back than usual on the plane. And when McCain finally boarded the plane, he failed to offer his usual wave at reporters and opted to quickly take his seat. During the flight, the cabin was unusually quiet, save a few quick discussions McCain had with top aides Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter. Near the end of the flight, Schmidt came back to the press cabin, where, with cameras off, he railed against the New York Times for publishing its story. “The Times in a post-Jayson Blair, post-Judith Miller world… went through a painful period of self-evaluation,” Schmidt said. “That went out the window yesterday with this piece on John McCain…This is much more a story about journalism than a story about John McCain.” When reminded that the Washington Post also published a story today, Schmidt shrugged. “The Washington Post piled on (but) the Washington Post didn’t instigate the story,” Schmidt said.

Huckabee says with an upset win in Texas, and a win in the Ohio Republican primary the same day, Huckabee could deny front runner John McCain the nomination in the primaries. “If we win Texas, I think it changes the dynamics of this race. It could well go all the way to the convention. If the convention delegates pick the president, chances are they would pick the most conservative. I would be the one they would end up picking, if that’s the criteria.”

In his answers to the 1998 Illinois State Legislative National Political Awareness Test, Obama said he favored a ban on “the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons.”

By definition, this would include all pistols ever made, from .22 target pistols used in the Olympics to rarely-fired pistols kept in nightstands and sock drawers for the defense of families, and every pistol in between. Obama’s strident stand would also ban all semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, whatever their previously legal purpose.

In 1999, Obama proposed to make it a felony for the gun owner if a firearm stolen from his residence and used in a crime was not “securely stored” — effectively negating the homeowner’s right to self-defense.

That same year, Obama bravely voted “present” on a law that would require teens 15 and older to be tried as adults for firing weapons on or near school grounds. Obama also proposed the idea of banning businesses that sell firearms from operating within five miles of a park or school — restrictions that would treat gun shops worse than “adult” businesses trafficking in pornography.

Peel away the charm and nice speeches, and charisma, and what do you have? A Leftist who despises the right to keep and bear arms.

Millions of hunters own and use guns each year. Millions more participate in a variety of shooting sports such as sporting clays, skeet, target, and trap shooting that may not necessarily involve hunting. As a former constitutional law professor, Barack Obama understands and believes in the constitutional right of Americans to bear arms. He will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport, and use guns for the purposes of hunting and target shooting.

Notice what Obama does not mention there. SELF-DEFENSE! Personal security, apparently, is not part of the Constitution according to Obama’s logic. If he believed self-defense WAS a constitutional right, he would have listed it there. He clearly did not. Obama also neglected to mention handguns. Very telling indeed!

A team of scientists have found that the economic damages from hurricanes have increased in the U.S. over time due to greater population, infrastructure, and wealth on the U.S. coastlines, and not to any spike in the number or intensity of hurricanes.

Frigid Arctic air coming down from Canada broke records in eastern North Dakota on Wednesday, including one that had stood for more than a century. Forecasters said a warmup was in store.

The temperature dropped to minus 33 degrees at the Grand Forks airport Wednesday morning, breaking the record for the date of minus 29 set in 1956, said Al Voelker, a National Weather Service meteorologist in the city.

Devils Lake hit 34 degrees below zero, breaking that city’s record for the date of 30 below set in 1939.

Fargo broke a record that had stood for 119 years, with 31 below. The record had been 30 below set in 1889.

Hasbro Inc. issued an apology Thursday after an employee, responding to complaints from pro-Palestinian groups, eliminated the word “Israel” after the city in an online contest to select names for a new Monopoly board game: Monopoly Here and Now: The World Edition.

The company also pulled all country names from other cities on the site when even more people complained, including the Israeli government, because Jerusalem was listed as the only city without a country.

The Pawtucket-based company is asking people to vote at the Monopoly Web site on which cities will be included in the new edition. Until Tuesday, every city on the site listed a country, including Paris, France; Cairo, Egypt and Jerusalem, Israel.

In Tuesday’s appearance before an Anderson Municipal Court judge, an Anderson man drew giggles and cautions when he tried to demonstrate the reason for his indecent exposure arrest.

James Thompson, 35, pleaded guilty Tuesday to exposing a part of his anatomy as a result of an arrest about 11 p.m. Saturday on Gossett Street near East Whitner Street, according to court testimony and the incident report.

But Mr. Thompson said his intent was not what it seems.

“My shirt got stuck in my zipper,” he said, trying to demonstrate the problem to Judge Ken Mattison and Anderson Police Officer Matthew Stipe. “I don’t wear drawers. When I tried to put it back, it was too late.”

In a report next week, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority is likely to accept recommendations from a review of language teaching, which said short oral exams should be replaced by assessment by teachers over a longer period.

The stress of the oral exam may be a factor in putting youngsters off studying languages, the review by Lord Dearing said. But former chief inspector of schools Chris Woodhead branded the proposal “stupid”.

Mr Woodhead, now working in the private school sector, said the move was yet another example of the government removing any examination system deemed “stressful” to students.

Oral exans are too stressful now? Good grief, how do these morons expect kids to ever function in the real world if they are sheltered from any pressure or stress?
